CULTURES IN CHINA


China is the second largest country in Asia after Russia and it is also the fourth largest country on this planet.China is famous with its Cultures like cuisine,music,festival,language and so on.When we come to the topic of the culture in China,we have a lot of things and ideas to discuss and share.

CUISINE
First of all,China is well known with their food.Chinese food is a very sophisticated art.You couldn't deny that China is the HEAVEN for  the food lovers!Confucius once said:Eating is the most vital thing in life.

MaPo Tofu is one of most famous dishes in China,and it is in SiChuan Cuisine. Believe it or not, it already existed in China for more than 100 YEARS!It tastes spicy with pepper powder,the milky toufu is served with brownish red ground beef or chicken and chopped green onion,I've tasted it before,it was delicious and perfect for the spicy lover!
Next,never miss Peking Duck! It is a well known dish in Beijing and it is a never-miss-dish in China. Peking duck is savored for its thick and crispy skin,it is always served with sweet bean sauce or soy with mashed garlic.

Beside that,dumplings are a traditional food and it is widely popular in North China.Minced meat like porks,diced shrimp,ground chicken and chopped vegetables are wrapped into a thin piece of dough skin.They can be cooked and served in many ways such as boiling,steaming or frying.Most of the china families will get together to make dumplings during the new year's Eve.They will hide a coin in one of the dumplings and the person who finds the coin is considered to have good luck in the year.There is an interesting quote for dumpling,"If you want to eat,dumpling is best,if you want to feel comfortable,sleeping will do!"

There is one thing u should know in the culture of food in China,Chopstick!China people used to use a pair of chopsticks during their meals, however,most of the foreigners are puzzled about how to use it.So,here is the tips.First,hold the upper part and don't cross it.Next, hold it with your thumb,index finger,middle finger and third finger.Let one stick against your third finger and the other leans on your middle finger.Then,use your index finger to control the stick to pick the food.You will find it is hard to use chopsticks,but practice make perfect,just practice and you will find it is easy!

MUSIC
Chinese music is unique and beautiful in its own way.In the Book of Rite,"Scholars don't leave their musical instruments without a reason",it is clearly show that  music was once an important part of the life of people in China.

SUONA
It is a reed instrument with a conical metal bell and also widely used in funeral,wedding or any other celebration of festival.
  PIPA
It is a four-string lute in pear shape,it witnesses the culture communication and perform the melody beautifully.The tunes of PiPa have very diverse styles and classified as either Wen Qu(civil and mild tone) or Wu Qu (martial and fierce tone).
Erhu
Erhu is a kind of violin with two strings and together with zhonghu,,gaohu,banhu and etc,it is belongs to the "huqin"family. The sounds of erhu is similar to human voice and many natural sounds such as birds and horse can be imitated by it.The erhu is always play an important role in the national orchestra because it is an very expressive instrument.




FESTIVAL 
 Chinese New Year
It is also known as Spring Festival and it is the most vital festival in China.It is a day for all the family members get together,just like the Christmas in western countries.The Chinese New Year falls on the 1st of the 1st lunar month.Before the Spring Festival comes,the chinese families will clean the indoors and outdoors of their houses.The Chinese families will decorate their house to feature an atmosphere of festivity.Everybody will dress up beautifully during the new year. The children will get at AngPau,it is a red envelop filled with money.The children will be so happy when they 
                                                                                      receive the AngPau.


The Chinese New Year Highlights

DOUBLE SEVENTH FESTIVAL  

This festival is drop on the 7th day of the 7th lunar month,it is a traditional festival which is full of romance like the Valentine's day of western countries. In a starry sky,you can see the Milky Way spanning from the north to the south.On each bank of it is a bright star,which could see each other from afar.They are the Cowherd and Weaver Maid.There is a beautiful yet romantic love story between these

Double Seventh Festival



DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL
It is the 5th day of the 5th lunar month and it has had a history of more than 2000year.ZongZi is a must to eat during the Dragon Boat Festival. For your knowledge,ZongZi is cooked rice which wrapped in bamboo leaves.There is a story behind this festival,once upon a time,there was a famous Chinese scholar,Qu Yuan was exiled by the King It is because the people jealous of his wisdom and thus accused him of false charges of conspiracy.Hence,Qu Yuan jumped into the Miluo River and died.Hence,to prevent the fishes in the river from eating his body,the people made the ZongZi and threw it inside the river so that the fishes wouldn't eat his dead body and this is how the ZongZi come.

DIALECTS
China people not only speak Chinese but also other dialects.

cantonese             Most of the people in GuangDong,southern Guangxi,Macau and
                               HongKong used to speak cantonese.

Hakka                   It is very tough to learn.This dialect is widely spread in the 
                              south of China,such as Fujian and Guangxi.

Hsiang                  It is a dialect that widely used in Hunan.

Northern Min        It is also known as "Min Pei".The people in North-west Fujian use this dialect.

Southern Min        It is quite similar to "Hokkien" and it is also known as "Min Nan".Most of the 
                              people in  Zhejiang,Fujian,Hainan and Taiwan speak with this dialect.
